The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is the country’s premier institute for fashion education and training. It was granted statutory status in 2006 by an Act of Parliament, making it one of the most prestigious fashion institutes in the country.

NIFT has a wide network of 18 campuses across India, with its headquarters in New Delhi and other campuses in cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Bhopal, Shillong, Kangra, Kannur, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Raebareli, Srinagar, Daman, and Panchkula. Each campus is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, specialized labs, and modern facilities to provide students with a strong academic and practical learning environment.

The institute offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in design, technology, and management. Undergraduate programs include the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, and Fashion Communication, along with the Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) in Apparel Production. At the postgraduate level, NIFT provides advanced courses such as the Master of Design (M.Des), Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M), and Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech). These programs are designed to blend creativity with technical knowledge and business strategies, preparing students for diverse roles in the global fashion industry.

NIFT Entrance Exam Structure

Stage 1: Written Test

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT): Tests creativity, design ability, drawing skills, visualization, originality, and innovative thinking.

  • General Ability Test (GAT): Covers Quantitative Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical & Logical Ability, General Knowledge, and Current Affairs.

Stage 2: Situation Test / GD-PI

  • Situation Test (for B.Des): Assesses material handling, model-making, and problem-solving through 3D prototypes.

  • Group Discussion & Personal Interview (for M.Des, M.F.Tech, M.F.M): Evaluates leadership, communication skills, conceptual clarity, and managerial abilities.
